  1. Certified copies of documents obtained from the county must bear the original signature of a elected official/authorized deputy or staff of that office. 
  2. For individuals not elected/authorized, the signature must be notarized.by a commissioned SC Notary Public.
  3. Reports from the SC Law Enforcement Div. (SLED) MUST be signed by an official from that office and their signature notarized.
  4. Photocopies of vital records are not acceptable. All vital records must be certified by the issuing government agency.
  5. School transcripts, report cards or letters MUST be signed by a school official and the official’s signature notarized.
  6. Notarized documents MUST include a complete notarial certificate, including the facts attested to by the notary.
  7. For documents going to a country that is not party to the “1961 Hague Convention”, an Apostille by the SC SOS Office IS NOT sufficient.
  8. Additional US Department Of State certification and/or Embassy legalization may be required to ensure document acceptance.
